Hotel CeRRO
Nestled in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, Hotel Cerro is a boutique luxury hotel comprised of two historical buildings as well as new multi-story construction and outdoor spaces.
Surrounded by existing business and fronted by three busy streets, the challenge was to create a hotel that harmonized with the neighborhood outside, while providing a restful but imaginative and unexpected oasis for guests within.
In the vein of many contemporary European boutique hotels which have successfully married modern interiors within historical buildings, we drew on the California mission vernacular and existing 19th century shophouse architecture — synthesizing those styles with a more modern, organic and minimalist aesthetic. Emphasizing clean lines and the authenticity of natural materials like bronze, stone, hardwood and ceramics, our goal was to create spaces that are not only pleasing to the eye but which convey a palpable sense of honesty and luxury while still feeling relaxed and understated.
