The Classic Cat on sunset strip
The Classic Cat is a upmarket redux of a notorious 1960’s burlesque club of the same name, located in its original location on West Hollywood’s famed stretch of the Sunset Strip.
Originally a gritty haunt for celebrities like Jim Morrison as well as actors, artists and grind-house performers, the new club-like restaurant is a lush and colorful reimagining of the original Classic Cat. The design aims at channelling the historic burlesque vibe mixed with the fantasy and glamor of old Hollywood, beginning with the Regency period through to the 1960s.
The result of an extensive remodel that enclosed an outdoor eating area to form a flexible dining space, the restaurant’s luxe interior focuses on layers of color, pattern and texture. Since the interior lighting is always kept low, the various details— such as the gilt relief fronting the brass bar, the elaborate rose gold wainscot, the upholstered wall panels, smoke mirrors, and the plush custom furniture, lighting and wall treatments — all conspire to tease the eye with a soft, sultry glow.
