Artist’s Statement: “I am attracted to looms for their complex simplicity. I love the interaction of line and plane, of warp and weft, in and out, up and down. Though I have no experience weaving (and maybe because of this void), the loom is, for me, a beautiful tool, a rhythmic instrument, a source of meditative repetition and mathematical pattern. I’m drawn to the physical gesture of weaving, the music of its motion. I embody these feelings and relationships as I approach the encaustic medium. With a X-Acto, I etch methodical, meditative and rhythmic lines into a soft plane of wax. Delicate lines emerge and fragment, binding the work together.”
